Paris (French: Paris – / pa.ʁi /) is the capital and largest city of France. The city is located in the meander of the River Seine, which it divided into 2 parts – Rive droite (right bank) to the north and the smaller Rive gauche (left bank) to the south.
The river is famous for its piers, in large part gardens and reserved for walking, with bibliopole – sellers of outdoor books, and historical bridge linking north and south. Paris is also famous for its large boulevards planted with chestnuts as the Champs-Elysees for example, and many architectural landmarks.
The city has about 2 million inhabitants (census 2005: 2 153 600). Much larger Paris agglomeration diameter near 120 kilometers is about 12 million inhabitants (2007 census: 12 067 000).
